Having a scar can be unattractive and might seem ugly, especially if that scar is on the face and thus, is visible. Scars may be caused on the face due to accidents, burns, long time exposure to the sun. They can even be caused by medical conditions called acne which, if not removed in its early stages, can leave marks and scars in the long run. However, even though it may seem that there is not a thing one can do about removing scars, yet there are ways and means to remove them and the most common way is facial surgery. There are many types of surgeries that may be done depending on the type and cause of the scar.

Removing scars

The first step to try out for removing scars would be to apply face creams and lotions. It would be better to ask a dermatologist on which cream or lotion to select. Alternatively, natural or herbal techniques may also be tried but if these fail, the best way to get rid of scars is to go for facial surgery. If the scar is an acne scar, some methods to remove it might include topical medication, subcision, punch grafts, etc. Punch grafts are generally used for deep acne scars. The skin surrounding the scar is removed and instead, new skin taken from behind the ear is applied on that spot. Other acne scar removal surgery techniques may include chemical peel, laser skin resurfacing, dermabrasion and cryosurgery. The cost of operation may vary for each technique. For example, in case of chemical peel, the process might take several weeks and may have to be done several times, before getting good results. Hence, costs would definitely vary.

Surgery: is it the right option

It is advisable to consult a surgeon before the actual surgery.  This would help in determining the type of scarring on the face, and also the correct method to get rid of it. It is better to take note of all procedures involved and also ask the doctor what the final results would look like or in other words, what to expect from the surgery. The knowledge of the time needed for the surgery and the risk involved is also a must.
